Courses

The felting courses while being directed to meet different interests and tastes are mainly targeting those enthusiasts who are enjoying the world of creation and design. No previous experience is required.
The wet felting brings a unique opportunity to everyone to become a designer and to enjoy that special “warmth” of pure ecological and natural materials.
 

At start of each course you may expect a cup of morning tea with some biscuits. During a break you have more tea, coffee, biscuits but you are welcome to bring own lunch pack and sandwiches with you.

Please bring with you two hand towels, an apron and house slippers.

Materials are included in price if it’s not stated otherwise.

When registering to a particular course please specify dates and time suit you most.

Courses For Beginners​
 
1) A complete introduction to wet felting - 5 hours / £70

In this course you will be introduced to the art of wet felting and to variety of its application in making clothes and accessories. Samples will be available for demonstration. You will learn about types of wool, fleece, fibres and other materials which can be used for making felt and its decoration. You will also get practice in technique of laying out and felting wool.

By the end of the course you will make own piece of felt with practical use!

 

2) Lunch mat - 4 hours / £60

The workshop covers:

Which wool is good for thick felt. Where to buy wool.  What are the working tools for felt making. Water and soap. Techniques of laying out the wool. The stable laying out. Decoration technique with coloured wool and various fibres. Edge treatment. Felting, rinsing and ironing. The signs when felt is ready.

Everyone will make a lunch mat. Such a mat can be used for glasses, mugs and plates. It's an excellent handmade gift and practical thing in every household.

 

3) Kitchen mitts - 5 hours / £70

The workshop covers:

Felting on template. Calculating the dimensions and making individual template for your mitts. Choosing the colours and decoration. Laying out and felting. When to take the template out. Felting in a roll. Finishing the edge. The signs of felt readiness. Rinsing out and shaping.

Those mitts will be handy in your kitchen, and they are an excellent gift by the way.

 

4) Flower - 4 hours / £60

The workshop covers:

Some theory about making flowers from felt. Choosing colours of wool. Creating a flower, thin laying out of wool, decoration, felting and assembling.

Such a flower can be used to decorate hats, bags, jackets, coats, and for your special cards as well. A perfect gift made by yourself for friends and families.

Intermediate сourses
 
1)  Types of wool for wet felting. Techniques of laying out wool - 6 hours / £80

The workshop covers:

Different kinds of felt clothes: jackets, coats, dresses, skirts, scarfs, hats, etc. What wool is used for wet felting. Which thickness of wool is good for different felt. The stable and elastic types of laying out wool. In which cases these types are used. Raw fleece and how to affix it in felting. Using fleece to decorate felt. Shrinkage of the felt. Calculation of the shrinkage coefficient.

Making samples from different wool. Combining wool of various thickness in felting. Making samples with fleece.

 

2) Decorating felt - 4 hours / £60

The workshop covers:

Various fibres, threads and cloth, slubs, naps which are used for decorating felt. Techniques to create surface texture. Shibori, smocking. Everyone will make own sample and will decorate it with cloth and fibres. You will learn about various fibres, make your choice and create one or more samples.

During this course you will select colours of wool for your sample, fibres for decorations. Laying out and felting. Readiness of the felt. Calculating coefficient of shrinkage.

 

3) Nuno felting - 5 hours / £70

The workshop covers:

Types of cloth being used for felting. Types of wool being chosen for nuno felting.  Yarn and fibres for decorating.

Description of various types of cloth materials for felting and wool. Techniques of laying out and making felt. Producing various samples.

 

4) Purse - 8 hours / £90

The workshop covers:

Felting a purse from carded wool. Decorating with a flower. Affixing a purse frame.

Calculating shrinkage. Making a template. Laying out wool. Working tools for felting. Creating pictures like flowers by the technique “wool watercolour». Felting a purse – how to make it right. Shaping.

Types of purse frames and how to affix them.

 

5) Hat - 8 hours / £100

The workshop covers:

Felting a hat on template. Decorating with fibres.

Types of wool being used for thin felt. Measuring, individual calculations for making a template of a hat. Selecting wool. Considerations for decorating with fibres. Process of laying out, decorating and making felt. Final shaping.

Everyone will make own hat.

 

6) Scarf - 8 hours / £90

The workshop covers:

Selecting the right type of wool for a scarf. Types of laying out. Making fringes. Selecting colours. Decorations. Surface reinforcement. Process of laying out, decorating and making felt. Treatment of the edge and fringes.

Everyone will make own scarf. You will learn to felt both ladies' and men’s scarfs. It may be an excellent gift!

 

Advanced courses

1) Shawl - 12 hours / £150

The workshop covers:

A colourful showl on silk. Some theory and planning you work. Selecting wool colours using colour wheel. Selecting fibres. Dying silk. Special one-layer laying out wool, which allows tender and elastic felt. Decorating and felting.

 

2) Making a pattern for felting a jacket - 5 hours / £80

The workshop covers:

Types of designing patterns. Basics of pattern design. Formulas. Laying our wool depending on a particular pattern design. Types of sleeves. Designing patterns of sleeves. Measuring. Drafting an individual pattern. Coefficient of enlargement. Basics of making a 1:1 pattern. Materials for patterns. Tracing lines.

 

3) Making a pattern for felting a dress - 5 hours / £80

The workshop covers:

Basic measurements for making a template. Formulas for the template. Seam allowance. Making a scaled-down pattern. Types of necks. Designing a pattern with sleeves. Types of skirts. Laying out wool depending on a dress design. Nuno felting. Lamination. Mixed technique. Everyone should take measurements and calculate own pattern. Coefficients of enlargement for different types of laying out. Coefficients as per samples. Basics of pattern design for a dress. Materials for patterns. Thin felt. Types of wool used for dresses. Reinforcement of felt. Decorating with fibres, beads and flounces.
